SUMMER Bubbles!
The CityCenterDC Plaza has been filled with bubbles all July long, but have you ever wondered where they all come from?
Founded over a decade ago by Adam Williams, Bubbleworks began as a simple idea that grew into something completely captivating. “Our company had been working in the field of live special effects for about 10 years when a client in Mexico City approached us about creating a large-scale ‘bubble’ experience to fill four full city blocks in Polanco, the upscale fashion center of Mexico City,” says Williams.
What resulted was an instant hit—the perfect transformation for a large public space in the era of social media, as Williams puts it.
Since then, Bubbleworks has expanded to other iconic cultural locations with similar experiences being executed in Central Park and on Coachella’s festival grounds. The company even collaborated with Taylor Swift to fill an entire stadium with bubbles for her Lover album launch.
Now returning for its fourth year at CityCenterDC, “BubbleworksDC has become the ultimate summer tradition and a perfect photo opportunity in the heart of the city,” says Williams. “We’re excited to bring this experience back year after year and witness how much audiences enjoy the bubble transformation of CityCenterDC each summer.”
Ultimately, Williams sees Bubbleworks as so much more than an installation; there’s a universal joy to bubbles, regardless of age. “Our goal is to transform and immerse our guests in an experience that reshapes the space, even if only for a few minutes,” he says. “It’s not just about standing back and watching; it’s about becoming included in the experience that is happening around you.”
